Media mogul Rupert Murdoch today apologized (well, sort of) for his controversial tweets saying all Muslims should be held accountable for radical acts of Islamic terrorism.
Here are the tweets in question:
Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible.
— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 10, 2015
Big jihadist danger looming everywhere from Philippines to Africa to Europe to US.
Political correctness makes for denial and hypocrisy.

Murdoch subsequently fell on the receiving end of much ridicule, from The Daily Show, comedian Aziz Ansari, and yes, even the grand purveyor of Hogwarts herself, J.K. Rowling.
So this afternoon, Murdoch fired out two tweets, sort-of apologizing but also sort-of standing by his point:
Certainly did not mean all Muslims responsible for Paris attack. But Muslim community must debate and confront extremism.
— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 14, 2015
Tens of thousands of jihadi victims are Muslims and millions fighting back. But important for people of all faiths to address the threat.
— Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 14, 2015
Now, any cursory reading of Murdoch’s initial tweet makes it clear he wasn’t saying all Muslims are to blame for acts of terror… unless they aren’t doing enough to crack down on these terrorists, in which case, “they must be held responsible.”
Ansari, who got #RupertsFault going on Twitter over the weekend, reacted bluntly:
@rupertmurdoch Hahahah you got forced to do a fake apology tweet!!! AHAHAHAHA YOU LOSER
