Teacher Disciplined for Calling Black Students the N-Word, ‘Slaves’
Two black Illinois students spoke out this week about how their substitute teacher referred to them using the n-word and even bringing up the word “slaves” at one point. Mea Thompson and Zaria Daniel, students at Jay Stream Middle School, explain they were in class and they objected when the substitute teacher called them “African-Americans.”
As Thompson explained, “All four of us that were sitting there got offended because none of us are from Africa. I’m Jamaican. So we said, ‘Can you please not call us that?'” The teacher then said “it’s the politically correct term,” followed by, “well, back then you guys would be considered the n-word.”
The teacher was interviewed by the middle school and corroborated that version of events. The school said she won’t be asked back.
Thompson’s mother is still continuing to take action, however, and wants to see if the substitute teacher can be charged with disorderly conduct.
