The View on Michael Avenatti Domestic Violence Arrest: If True, ‘He Deserves to Be Raked Through the Coals’

Michael Avenatti — as he has on so many shows — has become a frequent guest on The View this year. Notably, he appeared on the ABC daytime show just moments after his client, Julie Swetnick, levied her accusations against Brett Kavanaugh.

But Avenatti’s status as — according to View co-host Sunny Hostin — “friend to the show” did not spare him the panel’s wrath on Thursday, following his arrest in Los Angeles Wednesday on domestic violence charges.

“It was very upsetting to hear this, very disappointing,” Joy Behar said. “If it proves to be true, I will disavow him. I think he should take a polygraph test, just to clear the air.”

“If this turns out to be true, I think he deserves to be raked through the coals,” Abby Huntsman added. “Because he’s been sort of this champion of the MeToo movement. Although, I will say the same thing that I said during the Kavanaugh investigation, that I am a true believer in due process. And what drives me crazy is the hypocrisy in these moments…I think if you believe in due process with Kavanaugh, you should also believe in due process with Michael Avenatti.”

And Sunny Hostin added, “I was very disappointed as well when I heard about this, because he is a friend to the show. But you have a police spokesman saying that the victim had visible injuries. And he was arrested. $50,000 bail. That means that the officers had probable cause to arrest. And so, you know, we don’t know a lot. We don’t know who the alleged victim is. But if true, I’m so disappointed, I’m so disappointed. And I agree with you, we would have to disavow him. And he is a friend to the show, but you cannot abuse women.”
