On The View today and probably for many more days, the ladies discussed the massacre in Orlando.
Joy Behar kicked off the segment by stating a few statistics about guns, including that half of all mass shootings have taken place since 2005, after the ban on assault rifles like the AR-15 was lifted during the administration of George W. Bush.
Guest host Cristela Alonzo wanted to share some of her thoughts on guns, too.
After pointing out that everyone’s first reaction to a shooting is always racial, Alonzo said, “Hate is hate. We all know it, but it is hard — you have never heard of a mass strangling anywhere you go, you know what I mean? You don’t see mass stabbings where someone just went crazy with a knife and people waited in line to get stabbed.”
Behar jumped back in with, “One guy killed 50 people. How did he do that? With that rifle!”
Alonzo returned to the topic of race, explaining that since Donald Trump announced his presidential candidacy, she’s seen an uptick in people racially profiling her and assuming she’s not American, just as they have been with the Orlando shooter when there are other things to focus on.
