‘What If You Called Him a Fake President?’: Don Lemon Reacts to Trump Calling Jim Acosta ‘Fake News’
Last night, CNN anchor Don Lemon spoke with his colleague, senior White House correspondent Jim Acosta, about Acosta’s volatile run-in with President-elect Donald Trump at Trump’s first press conference since late July. During the presser, Trump refused to allow Acosta to ask a question while calling him “fake news” and slamming CNN as a news organization. Acosta also noted after the event that incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer threatened to toss him from the room if he tried to ask another question.
Highlighting what happened, Lemon asked Acosta if anything like this had ever happened to him before, with the reporter saying never in his experience of covering four presidents. The CNN host responded that this was a time for those in the media to stick together.
“I expected the person, the woman or man who followed you to say, ‘I yield my time to Jim Acosta’ or ‘My question is Jim Acosta’s question’,” Lemon noted. “I think this is a time for the press to stand up for each other.”
After some more conversation about how networks and outlets need to realize that it could be them attacked next and how Trump doesn’t respect the 1st Amendment like past presidents, Lemon then took a direct shot at the incoming POTUS and Spicer.
“I saw Sean Spicer on Fox News and he said you were rude,” Lemon said. “And I thought, when he called you fake news, what if you called him a fake president?”
