A staff member in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency resigned on Thursday after a report indicated he was connected to a social media account that advocated for eugenics.

The staffer, Marko Elez, was approved by a federal judge to have access to the Treasury Department’s payment system, according to The Wall Street Journal. The 25-year-old staffer was restricted from being able to share data from the payment process system.

However, the WSJ reported on Thursday that Elez, was connected with a social media account on X under the name @nullllptr that previously used the username @marko_elez. The account was deleted back in December shortly before Elez joined DOGE.

“You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” the account wrote on X in September, according to the Journal. Around the same time, the account wrote “Normalize Indian hate,” in regard to Silicon Valley hiring people from India.

“Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” the account connected to Elez wrote in July while another tweet read, “I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth.” The account also called for repealing the Civil Rights Act and backed a “eugenic immigration policy.”

X is owned by Musk, who is playing a major role in efforts by President Donald Trump to slash federal government spending and employee headcount.

According to the Journal, the user behind the account described themselves as an employee at Starlink and SpaceX — two commodities owned by the billionaire Musk.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the WSJ that Elez resigned following the newspaper’s inquiry over his association with the account.
