Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) trolled Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Wednesday after Cruz’s post about a “terrorist attack” at Rainbow Bridge was debunked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
After Fox News erroneously reported that “an attempted terrorist attack” had taken place on the border between the United States and Canada, and that “a lot of explosives” were involved, Cruz tweeted:
This confirms our worst fear: the explosion at Rainbow Bridge was a terrorist attack.
Both attackers are dead, and one law enforcement officer is injured.
I am praying that officer makes a full recovery and is able to spend Thanksgiving surrounded by family and loved ones.
Thank you to our law enforcement officers who are remaining vigilant and working to protect Americans traveling for Thanksgiving.
Just hours later, however, the FBI concluded the incident was not an attempted terrorist attack and that “no explosive materials” were found on the scene.
“FBI Buffalo has concluded our investigation at the scene of the Rainbow Bridge incident. A search of the scene revealed no explosive materials, and no terrorism nexus was identified,” an FBI statement declared, adding that “the matter has been turned over to the Niagara Falls Police Department as a traffic investigation.”
Swalwell replied to Cruz’s post with an image of the FBI’s statement.
Unnamed law enforcement sources told CNN that the driver of the vehicle which crashed on Rainbow Bridge was a 56-year-old man who “had plans to attend a KISS concert in Canada.”
When the concert was ultimately canceled, the man allegedly drove to a casino with his wife. The accident then occurred after the man and his wife left the casino. Both were killed in the accident.
