Feinstein Says Young Environmental Activists ‘Were Heard Loud and Clear’ in Statement on Viral Exchange

On Friday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein met with a group of children from the Sunrise Movement who tried to encourage the Democratic Senator from California to embrace Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‘s Green New Deal.
Yet, the Senator made headlines for all the wrong reasons when during that short meeting she appeared to lecture the children, remind one teen activist she was not old enough to vote and declare to the kid activists, as a seasoned politician, she knows what she is doing.
The Sunrise Movement — which tweeted out the video on Friday — said Feinstein’s response reeked of “smugness + disrespect.”
In response, Feinstein — who has likewise been facing wrath online to her approach to the kids — has since issued a clarifying statement saying she wants the kids to know they were heard “loud and clear.”
“Unfortunately, it was a brief meeting but I want the children to know that they were heard loud and clear,” Feinstein said in a tweeted out statement Friday night. “I have been and remain committed to doing everything I can to enact real, meaningful climate change legislation.”
She added that the group had a “spirited discussion” where she presented the group with her draft resolution which includes responses to climate change.
“I always welcome the opportunity to hear from Californians who feel passionately about this issue and it remains a top priority of mine,” the senator concluded.

You may notice that while the organization is correctly identified in Feinstein’s statement, she refers to them as the “Sunshine Movement” in her tweet.
