GOP Candidate Dodges On Whether Or Not Trump Will Campaign For Him In Swing State

Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI), the GOP nominee for Wisconsin governor, dodged while on NewsMax on Friday on whether or not he thinks President Donald Trump will campaign with him in the crucial swing state.

“We usually see the president on the campaign trail, helping out those running for Senate and Congress. You’re obviously running for governor. Do you expect the president to join you before the midterms to kind of support you there in Wisconsin?” asked Wake-Up America host Sharla McBride.

“Well, we’ll see what the president does. I mean, he’s got his hands full, and there’s the midterm convention that’s coming up,” Tiffany replied, adding:

There are a lot of races, and I think his priority, rightfully so, is the Congress of the United States — the House and the Senate. He wants to make sure they keep the majority, so I understand if that’s the president’s priority.

“Best of luck to you. Only a few months to go. Thank you,” added McBride.

As Trump’s approval rating has slid into the low 30s nationally, questions have arisen as to what role he will play in the midterm elections.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) warned this week that Tiffany faces a difficult fight in the general election against David Crowley, who defeated a Democratic Socialist on Tuesday in a surprise win.

“I think what’s concerning to me now — you know, we didn’t have really a contested primary for Republican governor, but we had about 500,000 Republicans come out and vote in our primary, 700,000 Democrats. That’s a 200,000-vote differential there,” Johnson said, adding:

That’s out of concern for Tom Tiffany, and of course now he’s not going to run against Francesca Hong, he’s probably gonna have a more formidable opponent. So President Trump is going to have to encourage the people that voted for him not to vote for socialists like they did in New York, but to vote for Republicans so that he’s not facing impeachment charges in the House and that we can retain a majority in the Senate.
