GOP Nominee Kari Lake Criticizes Republicans Like Abbott For Busing Migrants to Other States: ‘It Makes for a Cute Photo Op’
GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is “not a fan” of Gov. Greg Abott (R-TX) and other Republicans busing detained migrants to blue cities like Washington D.C.
Lake, who is running in Arizona, made her comments at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) during a discussion on illegal immigration.
“I’m not a fan of bussing people here illegally into other cities,” Lake said.
The Republican expanded on her point by saying she would not follow such a policy in Arizona and accused governors who were organizing this busing of just needing a “cute photo op.”
“It makes for a cute photo-op, but it just takes people who shouldn’t be here and moves them further in,” she said. “I think we should bring the buses and drive them to the border and then send them back the other way.”
Abott and Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) have been bussing migrants to Washington D.C., to the objection of Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), who has called for help from the federal government.
Abbott announced Friday on Twitter that a new busload of migrants was sent to New York City. This follows Mayor Eric Adams (D) protesting the amount of migrants being sent into the overstretched city and later refusing an offer from Abbott to visit the border.
“Instead of a photo-op at the border, we hope Governor Abbott will focus his energy and resources on providing support and resources to asylum seekers in Texas as we have been hard at work doing in New York City,” an Adams spokesperson said.
“The bus of migrants that arrived in New York City this morning is a tiny fraction of the border crisis Texas faces on a daily basis. It’s time for Biden to do. his. job,” Abbott tweeted about the new busload of migrants.
Texas is taking action to secure our state & country.
