House Republican Claims, ‘If You Are Socialist, You’re Anti-Semitic’

Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) equated socialism with anti-Semitism in an interview with Fox Business Network when asked about threats targeting university students all over the country and in her state of Florida.

Salazar was asked about happenings at Cornell University in upstate New York and other colleges, where students reported being targeted with threats of violence because they are Jewish.

“Well, what I say is that, once again, we’re sending the wrong message to the world,” Salazar began, adding:

And I always go back to the fact that unfortunately in this country, the socialist forces have penetrated the Democratic Party. There are many noble people within the Democratic Party that I serve with in Congress. But, there’s 50% of that conference, Democratic Conference, that has been penetrated by what you call, what they call, democratic socialism.

There is nothing democratic about socialism. Socialism is Marxism, is the neo-Marxist, that is what I call them. That is what infiltrates the people that are around President Biden. And those are the ones that are not sending a clear signal, that we stand next to a guy, meaning Israel, the only democratically-elected government in the region, surrounded by pretty bad enemies, and someone that did not attack anyone but was attacked. So, you see, the values are reversed: if you are a socialist you are anti-semitic.

The university issued a statement Sunday from President Martha E. Pollack stating, “Earlier today, a series of horrendous, antisemitic messages threatening violence to our Jewish community and specifically naming 104 West — the home of the Center for Jewish Living — was posted on a website unaffiliated with Cornell.”

She continued, “We will not tolerate antisemitism at Cornell,” and said those making threats will be “punished to the full extent of the law.”

Anti-Semitic threats both on and off campus have surged since the brutal Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel and the subsequent bombing and invasion of Gaza.
