Donald Trump has repeatedly complained about the absence of an app for TRUTH Social on Google Play, according to sources close to the former president.
During a discussion about his platform only being available on the Apple App Store, two individuals close to Trump told Rolling Stone he has recently asked, “Is Google trying to fuck me?”
The outlet writes that in recent weeks that the country’s 45th president has posed the question to both friends and advertisers:
The source of his paranoia, according to two people with knowledge of the ex-president’s query, was the absence of an Android app for his struggling social media app, Truth Social. Since it launched in February, the app has been available only on Apple devices, leaving Android users — roughly 40 percent of the U.S. mobile device market — without access to the platform. This has left Trump with questions about the status of the product and whether his perceived enemies at Google had any plans to reject it.
One person whom the outlet did not identify claimed to have discussed TRUTH Social’s unavailability for Android users with Trump. The person said he has also asked questions such as, “What’s up with Google?” and, “[is Google trying to] screw with me?”
The person told Rolling Stone: “[Trump] keeps hearing about how Google and YouTube have it out for him … including on Truth Social, and I think he’s taking [it] seriously.”
Another source close to the matter of Trump v. Google said TRUTH Social has yet to even submit an app to the Google Play store.
TRUTH Social’s February launch was a quagmire, as users had to wait months, in some cases, to access their accounts. Trump was also absent on the platform until a couple of weeks ago, when he began to post regularly.
The former president might also have access to his old Twitter account soon, should Elon Musk ultimately purchase the platform.
