In the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Joe Rogan and his guest briefly reminisced on the simpler times when Barack Obama was president.
Rogan’s lengthy chat with comedian Kurt Metzger included a variety of topics, including Rogan going after The New York Times for employing what he described as “hard left activists,” and the talk kicked off with discussion about the Israel-Hamas war.
Metzger expressed shock at Israeli UK ambassador Tzipi Hotovely recently comparing the Gaza military operations to the bombing of Dresden during World War II. Metzger described the three-day bomb spree as a “war crime,” and the morality and legality of the act where tens of thousands died continues to be debated.
“In her brain, it’s 1944 all day… it’s not 1948 when you got Israel established, it’s 1944 right after the shit happened and you’re real mad,” Metzger said.
The comedian joked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others appear to be culturally out of place today.
“They live in 1944, but we lived in wokey times, so the clash between the cultures…every time I hear an Israeli official or military person or fucking Bibi speak, it sounds like someone’s embarrassing immigrant parent that doesn’t know not to say gay slurs here in America,” Metzger said with a laugh.
He made it clear he does not support Hamas and the two men briefly shared a moment about “Obama times” and the simpler debates of the time.
“Remember back when … we knew what was what before we went to all this cuckoo caca. I hope we go back to those days. In fact, if I was liberal, I’d also [say] that the Obama times — they were just so great,” Metzger said with a laugh.
“The times of a less confusing enemy,” Rogan said.
“I’m not conservative either,” Metzger threw out.
“Yeah, it was more clearly established what was going on,” Rogan said.
Rogan has been supportive of a number of conservative politicians, but he’s praised Obama in the past. In a 2023 episode of his podcast, the comedian criticized Obama, but described him as a perfect “representative” for the United States.
“As far as like a representative of the United States, who better than Obama?” Rogan said at the time. “He’s the best of all time — the most educated and eloquent and even keeled. And he was a statesman and the way he spoke inspired confidence that truly the wisest amongst us is the king.”
