New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) announced Friday that he will continue to seek re-election in New York City’s crowded mayor race.

“Andrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar,” Mayor Adams said during a press conference, in which many speculated he may drop out.”I am in this race, and I’m the only one that can beat Mamdani,” he added.

Adams is running in a four-man race that includes former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani — the frontrunner who shocked the country with his Democratic Party primary win over Cuomo. Friday’s announcement at Gracie Mansion came just days after reports that President Donald Trump would offer Adams and Sliwa cabinet positions, confirming his support of Cuomo against Mamdani.

The story was first reported by The New York Times. Shortly after, Politico confirmed in its own reporting that Adams was offered a position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In the immediate aftermath of those reports, the campaigns of both Adams and Sliwa insisted the candidates would not be dropping out of the race.
