Nancy Pelosi Vows House Dems Will Fight for ‘Solutions to Prevent Gun Violence’ After California Shooting
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement on Thursday that Americans deserve “real action” on gun control in wake of the mass shooting in California that left 12 dead.
“Our nation awoke to news of a mass shooting of staggering tragedy and heartbreak. It is particularly wrenching that this attack was carried out at a bar hosting a college night, targeting innocent young people enjoying an evening of music and community,” Pelosi wrote.
She added: “The American people deserve real action to end the daily epidemic of gun violence that is stealing the lives of our children on campuses, in places of worship and on our streets.”
She also vowed that House Democrats — who gained the majority in this week’s election — will “fight to pass bipartisan, common sense solutions to prevent gun violence in communities across the country.”
Speaking with CNN’s Chris Cuomo later Thursday night, Pelosi also stressed that bipartisan legislation would “save many lives.”
A gunman killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California late Wednesday in Pelosi’s home state.
