Victor Davis Hanson Claims He’d Be Murdered for Wearing MAGA Hat in California

Victor Davis Hanson said he believes he would be murdered if he was merely seen with a Make America Great Again cap on his head in California.

The veteran conservative pundit and longtime California resident said many fellow residents of the Golden State have such a burning hatred for President Donald Trump they would confront him over a MAGA hat — or do something even worse.

Hanson said on his Saturday podcast there are conservative Californians who will convince themselves their liberal neighbors actually like them because they pay big bucks in taxes, but insisted that assumption was dead wrong.

“No, they hate you. ‘You’re an insect that prays on the poor.’ So it’s just a really nasty attitude in California,” Hanson said. “Put it this way, if I wore a MAGA hat that said ‘Make America Great [Again]’ and I walked downtown Los Altos, California, I don’t think I would be alive.”

Los Altos — which is about 40 miles south of San Francisco — is a deep Blue city; ex-Vice President Kamala Harris earned nearly 78% of the votes in Los Altos residents in the 2024 election. Harris won 58.5% of the votes in The Golden State overall, while Trump earned 38.3%.

Hanson said his belief donning a MAGA hat would be a death sentence is based on his experience frequently eating lunch in downtown Los Altos. He said it seemed like every other person would confront him over his right-wing politics.

“I would never wear a MAGA hat, but some people would recognize who I was and come up and give me a lecture,” he said.

Hanson’s new podcast episode came out the same morning Fox Business re-aired his Tuesday interview on Kudlow. Hanson slammed Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) during his appearance for being a fraud who buddies up to socialists and acts like he cares about the working class, all while driving around in a $200,000 Range Rover and being staggeringly rich.
