Megyn Kelly Rips Michigan Senate Candidate Haley Stevens’ Accent and Calls Her ‘a New Jasmine Crockett’

Megyn Kelly ripped Michigan Senate candidate Haley Stevens (D-MI), playing video of the politician’s apparently changed accent and laughing at a now viral TMZ clip of Stevens in the halls of Congress.

Stevens, first elected in 2019, is locked in a tight primary race with progressive Abdul El-Sayed, who has been confronted for past statements calling to “defund the police” and has courted controversy for campaigning with Hasan Piker, once claimed “America deserved 9/11.”

The Democratic Party has backed Stevens, who recently earned Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) endorsement.

But conservative podcaster and journalist Kelly was quick to point out Stevens’ apparently changed accent, which became a hot topic after TMZ’s interview went viral.

“I am gonna be workin’ on our behalf, I am gonna be tellin’ the stories on our behalf,” Stevens says in the clip. “And you better believe I’m gonna be doin’ it with a little bit of joy, a little bit of enthusiasm, a little bit of energy, and a little bit of ‘stick it to ’em!’ Because that’s the Michigan way!”

“I sound like the people who I’m trying to fight for,” Stevens says in the clip.

Kelly wasn’t buying it.

“This woman, she’s not playing it straight. We’ll show you the proof. Um, this is not how she’s always talked. She’s Jasmine Crockett,” Kelly said.

“That’s what we’re realizing. This is a new Jasmine Crockett. Like, but I don’t get it, because do Michiganders need you to ‘speak like this in order to vote for ya, with the back in your throat, have your hard A’s,” Kelly said, imitating a stereotypical Michigan accent as she spoke.

“No I don’t think so, I don’t think they require that, because that’s not how any other Michigan politician talks,” she added, later playing older clips of Stevens’ speaking with less of a notable accent.

Later guest Emily Jashinsky made fun of Kelly’s attempted Michigan accent.

“That was such an offensive Midwestern accent from you, Megan. I can’t even begin,” Jashinsky said.

“Well, I am imitating this woman, not Midwesterners. That’s the problem for her,” Kelly said.

“She’s the offensive one,” Jashinsky said.
Jashinsky added the accent change is ammunition for Republicans.
She’s been in politics for a long time. It is just an absolutely ridiculous act that, if she beats Abdul El-Sayed, will bite her in the *ss in this crucial Michigan Senate race for Democrats if she’s nominated. Because that juxtaposition you just played is going to be an ad for Republicans if she wins. I’m calling it now,” Jashinsky added.
“They’re going to say something like Haley Stevens sounds different, right? It’ll be on a silver platter for them,” she added.

“She’s a fraud. She’s a fake. She’s a phony,” Kelly said, later adding, “But I don’t find that attractive at all. And nor do most Michiganers who don’t sound like that. I don’t know who she’s trying to sound like. She’s giving off a little Fargo vibe, you know.”
