‘We Are Not There Yet’: Jared Kushner Says Trump ‘Doesn’t Wanna Rush to a Deal’ With Iran

Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, told Fox News on Monday that the president “doesn’t wanna rush to a deal” with Iran, admitting, “We are not there yet.”

This isn’t the first time that Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump, has been brought in by his father-in-law to help broker agreements for the U.S. Along with Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, Kushner has played a role in the Trump administration’s efforts to negotiate an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Most recently, the pair were tasked with the Iran negotiations.

Speaking with Fox News’ Trey Yingst on Monday, Kushner touted the president’s focus on applying “economic pressure” in the region. With Yingst noting that the memorandum of understanding between the countries has expired, Trump’s son-in-law admitted that Iran is “not showing any interest in, uh, doing something that makes sense for us.”

The network’s chief foreign correspondent then mentioned his conversation with the president earlier on Monday, in which Trump said there is a “backchannel between the administration and top IRGC officials.” When asked about those communications, Kushner responded:

I can’t go into the details of it, but I will say that the conversations between the U.S. government and, uh, different areas of the Iranian government, at all areas, is probably more robust, uh, than it’s maybe ever been. And so, there’s been a lot of good dialogue, which I think is very, very helpful, right? You can’t make deals with each other, uh, if you don’t understand each other. You have to exchange views.

There’s really not a lot of trust between America and Iran after all these years of not having these relations and dialogues, but obviously, they’re engaging in a very, um, in a very strong way, and that’s quite positive, but we’re not there yet on understanding, and President Trump is gonna be very patient. He doesn’t like to make — he doesn’t wanna rush to a deal. He’ll make the right deal when the right deal is ready, but we are having very positive and active conversations.
