Actress Jane Curtin’s Resolution to ‘Make Sure the Republican Party Dies’ Riles Twitter: ‘Jane, You Ignorant…’
During CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage, comedian, actress, and SNL-alum Jane Curtin was one of many celebrities offering their resolutions for 2019. Most were silly or funny, some were tellingly self-involved (Megan Fox), but Curtin’s got the Twitter treatment after she resolved the destruction of the GOP.
“My New Year’s Resolution is to make sure that the Republican party dies,” said Curtin in her brief appearance.
Proving that at least some people were watching CNN’s coverage, Twitter took notice. A lot of positive reactions with blue checkmarks.
SAME!

She'd prefer we move to a one party system like China or North Korea. https://t.co/4vVfOIpXRu

The real shocking part of this is that Jane Curtin is still alive. Lord knows, her career isn't. https://t.co/dksI9OHusb

As a life long #Republican I want a healthy competitive #Democrat party bc it makes my team better. It’s sad to see the media highlight unhappy shallow people like #JaneCurtin as thought leaders. #SNL https://t.co/zFtFUnmJwg

Now I know what Jane Curtin got for Christmas. Bitterness.

Can you imagine the outrage by @CNN if a republican had said this about the Democrat Party https://t.co/aX6O2TzN60

Of course, democrats want republicans to die – because free market capitalism is “unfair” because it does not reward non-performance equally with performance!” #HappyNewYear2019 https://t.co/NVrW4yEHmA

In 2018 under @GOP policies:
✅ Women’s unemployment hit 65yr low
✅ Black unemployment record low
✅ Hispanic unemployment record low
✅ Consumer confidence 18yr high
✅ Unemployment 49yr low
✅ Fastest wage growth since '09
Yet Jane Curtin wants the Republican party to die. ? pic.twitter.com/XDb8i6XWp9— IWV (@IWV) January 1, 2019
American Commitment president Phil Kerpen got the award for the most deftly referential insult, though.
What was that Dan Akroyd catchphrase? https://t.co/dsAzNroYbz
— Phil Kerpen (@kerpen) January 1, 2019
If you’re not familiar (millennials), the catch phrase was “Jane, you ignorant slut.”
That phrase is (less deftly) in abundance (and misquoted or mis-attributed) on Twitter this first day of the year.
So meet the new 2019 Twitter, same as the old one.
