CNN Panel Goes Off Over Report Dems Asking Franken to Reconsider: He Won’t ‘Un-Resign’

A CNN panel this afternoon took the news of Democrats asking Al Franken to reconsider resigning with both cynicism and skepticism.

Senator Joe Manchin said what his fellow Democrats did was so “hypocritical,” and Patrick Leahy backed off his initial call for Franken to resign.

Others expressing that view have not gone on the record yet.

Chris Cillizza said it’s clear the calls for Franken to go were a “clearing-of-the-decks maneuver” in case of Roy Moore riding Sassy all the way to the Senate, in an attempt to claim the moral high ground.

Kirsten Powers said there are female senators who were “frustrated” about Franken not stepping down initially, and going back on this at all would be pretty striking.

Kaitlan Collins questioned seeming contradictions in Manchin’s stance on this issue, and Powers said that “due process is for courts.”

Going back on this, Cillizza added, would make no sense. He also doubted that Franken would “un-resign.”
