CNN’s Don Lemon: Trump ‘Demanding Forced Patriotism’ Like an Autocrat

While discussing Donald Trump’s attacks on the Philidephia Eagles team that he disinvited from a White House visit, CNN’s Don Lemon compared the president’s antics to the “forced patriotism” of “autocrats.”

Trump, who disinvited the Super Bowl champion Eagles from the customary White House visit after the majority of players didn’t want to go, smeared the team this morning by claiming they kneeled for the national anthem when they did not. Additionally, press secretary Sarah Sanders claimed the players didn’t want to visit the White House because they were staging an anti-Trump “political stunt.”

Lemon responded to the issue by going on a spirited monologue against the president’s dishonest tactics, as he said “this was absolutely a political stunt. A political stunt by the president.”

He continued:

“Facts matter. So, here are the facts. Not one single Eagles’ player took a knee during the regular season. Not one. Not one single Eagkes player stayed in the locker room during the anthem. Not one. Who is being disrespectful here? Who is stomping all over the values we hold dear as Americans? The values, the freedoms that Americans have fought and died for. You know who is doing that? It’s the person who’s lying to you about the Eagles’ players. The person whose lied to you well over 3,000 time in the past 501 days. The person who is demanding forced patriotism just as autocrats have done for centuries. That’s none other than Donald J. Trump, the president of the United States.”
