Fox’s Tucker Carlson Assumes Colbert ‘Doesn’t Fully Understand’ What #BlackLivesMatter Is
At one fan’s request, Stephen Colbert displayed a a wristband that read “Black Lives Matter” for the entirety of his Late Show taping Friday night. Unsurprisingly, the hosts of Fox & Friends Weekend were not impressed.
Patrick Waldo, the artist/activist who gave the wristband to Colbert, posted a photo collage of him wearing it on Instagram:
“It’s possible that he’s so rich, famous, celebrity guy, so totally out of touch that he doesn’t fully understand what that represents,” host Tucker Carlson said of the wristband, giving Colbert the benefit of the doubt by essentially calling him ignorant. “Do you really want to get into the your first week on the air?” he asked. “Diving face-first into the most divisive social movement in America?”
Anna Kooiman said she certainly hoped Colbert wasn’t supporting the same group that chanted “fry like bacon, pigs in a blanket” about cops at a recent protest.
“Is he going to have an arm full of wristbands for every skin color?” Clayton Morris wondered.
Later, in another segment on the issue of Colbert’s wristband, Carlson repeated his assumption about the late night host, saying, “I assume he doesn’t fully understand what Black Lives Matter is,” before allowing, “maybe he does.”
