Jimmy Kimmel Tears Up While Reacting to Vegas Shooting: Thoughts and Prayers ‘Are Insufficient’
Jimmy Kimmel struggled to hold back his tears on Monday night as he addressed the horrific news about the mass casualty event that took place in Las Vegas.
Kimmel’s voice cracked as he talked through the details of the tragedy and expressed his sympathies to the victims. As he spoke about how it’s “too much to even process,” Kimmel turned his attention to the imminent debate on gun control:
“I’ve been reading comments from people saying ‘this is terrible but there’s nothing we can do about it,’ but I disagree with that intently because of course there’s something we can do about it. There’s a lot of things we can do about it, but we don’t, which is interesting because when someone with a beard attacks us we tap phones, we invoke travel bans, we build walls, we take every possible precaution to make sure it doesn’t happen again, but when an American buys a gun and kills other Americans, then there’s nothing we can do about that… Second Amendment, I guess.”
Kimmel went on to question why lawmakers allow people to get their hands on the kinds of weapons that have been used in gun rampages throughout America in recent years. Kimmel also bashed Sarah Huckabee Sanders after the White House Press Secretary said it was too soon to talk about gun control.
“We have 59 innocent people dead,” Kimmel said. “It wasn’t their time either, so I think now is the time for political debate.”
Kimmel continued to trash lawmakers who will offer thoughts and prayers but nothing else “because the NRA has their balls in a money clip.” Kimmel especially condemned legislators who voted against closing loopholes for gun sales after the Orlando Pulse shooting.
“With all due respect, your thoughts and your prayers are insufficient,” Kimmel said. “We have a major problem with gun violence in this country and I guess they don’t care.”
