Lindsey Graham Declares That With Satan in High School, Chick-Fil-A Should Be Able to Close on Sunday: ‘This Is God’s Chicken!’
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) railed against a bill making its way through the New York state legislature aimed at forcing the fast food chain Chick-fil-A to open its s rest stop locations on Sunday, during a Wednesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, comparing the closures favorably to the promotion of after-school Satan clubs in public schools.
In a Wednesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, Graham declared that “if you can have a Satan club in high school, surely they can close on Sunday because they believe it’s the Lord’s Day,” before urging company leadership to “stand your ground.”
He continued:
I’ve got your back, it’s illegal what they’re trying to do. Trying to make Chick-fil-A stay open on Sunday violates their constitutional rights. And this is one of the most liberal places in the world. And we’re going to fight you, New York! We’re not going to give in to this.
A Fox News producer then presented Graham and his hosts with a tray full of Chick-fil-A, prompting Graham to exclaim “This is Wednesday, this is God’s chicken!”
He concluded:
The bottom line is conservatives are tolerant. We are, you know, kind of get out of your business, you leave me alone, I’ll leave you alone. It’s time to push back. I’m sure this is a publicity stunt, but the idea that the state of New York is going to make a company change its policies it’s had from its founding, They want to have one day off for their employees to recognize the Lord. And they can do it, and to the people in New York who are pushing this, you’re you’re in for one hell of a fight.
In a video on its website, Chick-fil-A explains the closures are a holdover from its founder, Truett Cathy.
“It’s not about being closed. It’s about how we use that time,” it explains. “So while we’re off today, we hope you can be with your family and friends.”
