Democrat Ruben Gallego Had Multiple Sexual Relationships with Hill Staffers: Report

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) engaged in previous sexual relationships with two House staffers, according to a new report which dropped not long after the Senate Ethics Committee dismissed misconduct allegations against him.

The New York Post reported on Thursday that the senator admitted to two relationships with House aides, according to one source. Another source also confirmed the alleged relationships to the paper.

A third source confirmed one of the relationships. Both reportedly occurred while Gallego, 46, represented Phoenix in the House from 2015 to 2025, both women being aides to Texas Democrats.

One of the sources described the relationships as part of a “pattern of mistakes and missteps and judgment calls” for Gallego, noting the power imbalance between lawmakers and aides — one of the staffers was reportedly “much younger” than Gallego.

“What else could there be out there?” the source asked.

Gallego did not directly comment on the relationships, but it’s believed that they occurred before he was married in 2019 to Sydney Gallego. He was previously married for six years before that, divorcing in 2016. These staffer relationships are believed to have occurred when Gallego was unmarried during those years.

The Senate Ethics Committee dismissed an ethics complaint brought against Gallego by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), accusing him of finance violations and more.

“We are writing to inform you that the Select Committee on Ethics (the Committee) dismissed a complaint filed against you by Representative Anna Paulina Luna,” the senators on the investigative panel wrote in a letter.

Luna claimed in April that she’d heard from multiple women about inappropriate behavior by Gallego.

“I have now heard of 4 women who have had multiple and uncomfortable/inappropriate advances/comments/touching, etc. from Senator Gallego. This is not made up and the Senate is being awfully quiet about it,” she wrote on X.

Rumors about Gallego’s personal life have become a topic of debate for his critics ever since his close friend Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress after being accused of sexual misconduct and assault by multiple women.

According to the Post, citing an insider, the Senate investigation did not dive into Gallego’s personal relationships and “focused squarely on what Luna presented to them.”

Luna has stood by her accusations against Gallego, while the senator celebrated the ethics investigation dismissal as validation against what he described as right-wing conspiracy theories.

“The dismissal by the Ethics Committee reaffirms what I have said about these accusations from the beginning: they were right-wing conspiracies peddled by far-right activists like Anna Paulina Luna, the White House, and their allies,” Gallego said.

“There are plenty of people who know about your antics,” Luna responded at the time. “The good news about DC is everyone talks, and eventually the reporters come forward with your texts. Do yourself a favor and keep raising for your legal defense fund. Once a creep always a creep, and you’re gonna need it.”

A Democratic operative told the Post that she found Gallego to be a “creep” and she wasn’t surprised by the news of staffer relationships.

“I have witnessed firsthand his very flirtatious nature after a couple of drinks. Maybe he thinks he’s being charming? I don’t know. Guy gives me the creeps. I’ve always steered clear,” she said.
