Morning Joe Airs Montage of Trump’s Cohen Raid Rant Alongside Nixon’s on Watergate

Morning Joe opened the show on Wednesday with a montage of President Donald Trump’s comments on the FBI raid of his lawyer Michael Cohen — alongside remarks from former President Richard Nixon over what he dismissed as the “so-called Watergate affair.”

Trump’s remarks came during a meeting with military brass to discuss action in response to the Syrian chemical attack, when he was asked by reporters about the Cohen raid. Trump went off on a tangent, railing against the move as “an attack on America.”

The Nixon video, meanwhile, is from his 1974 State of the Union, in which he called an end to the Watergate investigation that ultimately brought down his presidency.

“I refer, of course, to the investigations of the so-called Watergate affair,” Nixon said. “As you know, I have provided to the Special Prosecutor voluntarily a great deal of material.”

“I believe that I have provided all the material that he needs to conclude his investigations and to proceed to prosecute the guilty and to clear the innocent,” Nixon continued. “I believe the time has come to bring that investigation and the other investigations of this matter to an end. One year of Watergate is enough.”

After the video, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski noted Trump is “openly considering the firing an independent investigator in what could be the most consequential political decision since five mean broke into DNC headquarters more than four decades ago.”
