Outgoing Sen. Corker Stands by Comments Questioning Trump’s Competence, Stability

Senator Bob Corker, who announced just last week he’s not seeking reelection, is standing by comments he made earlier this year questioning President Trump‘s competence and stability.

Back in August, following Trump’s comments on Charlottesville, Corker said, “The president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability, nor some of the competence, that he needs to demonstrate in order for him to be successful.”

And he told Chuck Todd on today’s Meet the Press that he stands by that.

He said he is “seeing changes” that he’s encouraged by, but ultimately concludes, “I stand by the comments I made at the time. I don’t make comments like that without thinking about them.”

Corker revealed that he actually met with Trump recently and the two of them talked about those comments.
