Rick Santelli got fired up this morning while he and and Steve Liesman were discussing the fiscal cliff. Santelli grew increasingly frustrated… eventually throwing his papers and walking off camera.
“Why does he need to pump up his base and go on the road?” Santelli argued, referring to the president’s fiscal cliff campaigning. “He won!”
Liesman argued that he has the ability to “extract” something from the base, that he “doesn’t owe them anything.” What should matter to the president, he said, “is his economic legacy.”
“You want to get rid of the fiscal cliff uncertainty,” Liesman said.
Santelli later got heated, as Liesman offered more specifics, and cited a Wall Street Journal op-ed. When Liesman went on to cite “the op-ed above it,” Santelli went off.
“Don’t give me the switcheroo,” Santelli told him. “I’m not talking about that one, I’m talking about the one below it.”
After some more yelling back and forth, Santelli grew louder, finally tossing the papers he was holding — and saying, “I can’t even talk about it anymore,” before walking off.
