Schiff on Pelosi Comments: Absent ‘Very Graphic Evidence,’ Impeachment Wouldn’t Even Have Support in the Senate
House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff backed up Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s opposition to impeachment in comments to CNN this afternoon.
Pelosi said this regarding impeachment in the Washington Post interview out today:
“I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
Schiff agrees with Pelosi’s remarks, and told CNN’s Manu Raju “a failed impeachment” wouldn’t be a good idea anyway:
Schiff added: “I think given how polarized the country is right now and given how the Republican members of Congress have prostrated themselves right now in front of the president, in the absence of very graphic evidence, it would be difficult to get the support of” the Senate

MORE from @ericswalwell:
"I understand the sentiment that this president is not worth talking about impeachment until we have evidence because the American people want us to talk about reducing the cost of prescription drugs, getting transportation and infrastructure projects." https://t.co/F1vZZW3KMU— Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) March 11, 2019
Rep. CICILLINE, on his way into leadership meeting, tells me of Pelosi’s comments: “It is never appropriate to proceed with impeachment for political reasons. It is never appropriate to not proceed with impeachment for political reasons.”

Rep. RASKIN, Judiciary/Oversight member, tells @BresPolitico: “We can’t get so frustrated with Donald Trump that we don’t impeach him just because he’s Donald Trump.”
“I wouldn’t frame it as whether the president is worth it. The question is whether the republic is worth it.”
