President Donald Trump addressed relief efforts underway in Puerto Rico after the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria, in comments given before the National Association of Manufacturers Friday morning.
After detailing the difficulties FEMA faces with getting aid to the island, where much of the population is struggling to even obtain drinking water, Trump explained that Puerto Rico is an island, and is therefore surrounded by water.
“This is an island,” Trump explained. “Surrounded by water. Big water. Ocean water.”
“We’re closely coordinated with the territorial and local governments, which are totally and unfortunately unable to handle this catastrophic crisis on their own. Just totally unable to.”
This was not the first time this week Trump found himself in awe of the ocean that surrounds Puerto Rico. On Tuesday, the president made a number of comments marveling at the size of the Atlantic Ocean, and how that complicated relief efforts.
