Trump Uses Immigration Event With Families to Bash Media: Won’t Cover ‘Permanently Separated’ Families

As President Donald Trump spoke today alongside a group of “angel families,” he used the event to trash the media for ignoring news stories about migrants who illegally enter the country and commit crimes against American citizens.

As Trump continues to come off of his controversial policy separating immigrant children from their families at the southern border, he opened up the event by remarking that “you never hear” about those who’ve been “permanently separated” from their loved ones.

“These are the American citizens permanently separated from their loved ones. The word ‘permanently’ being the word that you have to think about…They’re not separated for a day or two days. These are the families that the media ignores. They don’t talk about them. Very unfair. We have to look at everybody, but this is a very unfair situation.”

The speech went on with Trump slamming Democrats for being “weak” on immigration and the media for not doing more to cover “the death and destruction caused by people that shouldn’t be here.” He continued to hammer at the “indifference” shown to the angel families, dismiss illegal immigrant crime statistics, and complain that America’s immigration laws are “the weakest in the history of the world.”

“Where is the media outrage over the catch and release policies that allowed deadly drugs to pour in? Where is the condemnation of the sanctuary cities that release violent criminals into our communities and then protect them?” Trump asked. “Where is the outcry over the savage gang MS-13 and its bloodthirsty creed: kill, rape and control? Because the news media has overlooked their stories.”

Trump eventually turned the mic over to the assembled families, some of whom criticized the media along the same lines:
