Veteran journalist Andrew Neil will join Times Radio earlier than planned due to the snap election set for July.
Despite originally being scheduled to start at the radio station in September, Neil’s new show will now begin on June 3, a month before polling day. The show, focused on in-depth political analysis, will broadcast Monday to Thursday at 1 pm.
Neil’s show will feature Conservative minister Michael Gove and Labour MP Harriet Harman, both of whom are stepping down from their elected roles and not standing for re-election.
Times Radio Programme Director Tim Levell told Press Gazette: “Andrew Neil joining Times Radio for the election campaign gives the station the strongest political lineup in British radio, alongside John Pienaar, Kate McCann, Matt Chorley, and Adam Boulton.”
He added: “Andrew’s authoritative take and razor-sharp analysis will be unmissable. Listeners want to know what’s really going on, and what to make of all the claims and counter-claims. Andrew will give it to them straight. And having Michael Gove and Harriet Harman join him each week is the icing on the cake.”
Neil himself commented on bringing forward his start date: “Someone once said a week is a long time in politics. In the digital age, a day is a long time.”
