Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart blasted former Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “lying fucking public schoolboy” while throwing his full support behind Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in the upcoming general election.
The 79-year-old singer has long identified as a Tory supporter but expressed his disillusionment with the Conservative Party’s leadership in an interview with The Times on Friday.
“Well, I liked Boris Johnson. He was a good figurehead, but he turned out to be a lying fucking public schoolboy. He got found out and things haven’t been much better since,” Stewart said. “How many prime ministers have we had that haven’t been voted for? What’s all that about?”
“Keir Starmer and Labour deserve a crack at it,” he added. “If there was anyone else we could vote for, then maybe, but they should be given a shot.”
The political endorsement comes as the singer’s ongoing fundraising efforts and advocacy for healthcare and health awareness. Stewart received a knighthood from Prince William in 2016 for services to music and charity.
