A man was arrested Thursday following the death of Gogglebox star George Gilbey, who passed away Wednesday following a fall from a height at his workplace in Essex.
The incident, which occurred in Showbuyness, Southend-on-Sea, saw emergency services, including an air ambulance, rush to the scene, but efforts to save the Gilbey were in vain.
An investigation involving both Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive followed and authorities announced the arrest of a man in his 40s from Witham on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
The news of Gilbey’s death left fans and co-stars alike in shock and was first announced by fellow 2014 Celebrity Big Brother contestant and friend Ricci Guarnaccio on X.
Others in the entertainment industry offered tributes, including Daniella Westbrook and Nadia Essex.
In a statement, Channel 4 said: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”
Gilbey rose to fame on Channel 4’s reality show Gogglebox, appearing alongside his parents. After his decision in 2014 to join Celebrity Big Brother as a contestant he left Gogglebox for a short time, returning between 2016 and 2018 before leaving again.
