Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was hit by what appeared to be a milkshake thrown by a woman as he left a pub in Clacton on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened as Farage relaunched the Reform Party election campaign in the constituency he is standing for in the upcoming general election. As he left a Wetherspoons pub in the town he was struck from his right in front of media cameras as the crowd cheered and clapped.

The woman who threw the drink, originally reported as a beer, from a McDonald’s cup identified herself as Victoria in an interview with the BBC. She claimed that she did not come down to the event with the intent to throw the milkshake over Farage but that in the moment she “just felt like it.”

She added: “He doesn’t stand for me, he doesn’t represent anything I believe in or any of the people around here. He doesn’t represent us, he’s not from here.”

The woman, who left the scene after the incident, was arrested by Essex Police.

In a statement the police said: “Officers have made two arrests after responding to a report a drink was thrown at a man in Clacton. We were called to the area of Marine Parade East, Clacton, at around 2.10pm. It was reported a man had a drink thrown over him as he left a premises in the area. A 25-year-old woman, from Clacton, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.”

Speaking on X, the Reform leader’s predecessor now chair, Richard Tice, wrote that the party will “not be bullied or threatened off the campaign trail.”

In relative good humour, Farage ran with the pun, riffing on lyrics from Kelis’ 2003 song Milkshake he told followers: “My milkshake brings all the people to the rally.”
