Campbell Brown, former news anchor for CNN and NBC, has an op-ed in today’s New York Times calling out President Obama for sounding too “paternalistic” and “maddeningly off point” when he talks about women in this economy. She advised that the president to drop his “tone that can come across as grating and even condescending,” explaining that many women don’t want to be “patted on the head” by politicians pandering to them, they want “a chance to succeed based on their talent and skills.”

As we previously reported, hip-hop artist and mogul-of-many-things Jay-Z told CNN Monday that he supports President Obama‘s recent decision to back same-sex marriage, calling it “the right thing to do.” Now another successful rapper, T.I., has joined the chorus, telling MTV this week that “you should be able to do whatever you want to do.”

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has come out publically and called for a friendly PAC planning to run an ad against Obama linking him to his controversial pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright to abandon that ad. Romney reportedly said that he worries his campaign will be portrayed as an “attack campaign” running against President Barack Obama as an individual rather than against his record as President.

President Barack Obama faced a stiff challenge from an unlikely opponent in the Democratic presidential primary in West Virginia on May 8. A federal inmate in Texas drew 42 percent of the Democratic vote in the Mountain State — about 52,000 votes to Obama’s 70,000. While the President squeaked by with a victory in West Virginia, he could lose an upcoming Democratic primary in Arkansas where he faces an opponent who polls show is running a competitive race.

The New York Times doubled down on its controversial poll which showed Mitt Romney leading President Obama among women voters. “We stand by our latest poll with CBS News on same-sex marriage and its use of a call-back survey of respondents from our most recent poll in mid-April,” spokeswoman Eileen Murphy told Politico’s Dylan Byers.

And before you accuse me of expressing a hyperventilating overreaction to what could easily be interpreted as a provocative think piece if given a neutral read… well, just give it a shot. “I see no great floods into these places by refugees desperate to escape the horrors of white supremacy,” is just one of the unimpeachable conclusions Derbyshire has devised in his latest salient work.

New York Magazine reporter Edward Klein’s upcoming unauthorized biography of President Barack Obama made news last week when it alleged that President Bill Clinton called him an “amateur” and urged Sec. Hilary Clinton to challenge Obama in the 2012 Democratic presidential primaries. On Sunday, another revelation in the book was released in which Rev. Jeremiah Wright claims that the Obama campaign offered him $150,000 to maintain a low profile during the 2008 election.

In his new book, former Secretary of State Colin Powell confirms that there was no serious debate within the George W. Bush administration during the 2003 run-up to the war with Iraq.

In one chapter of the book, obtained in advance by the Huffington Post, Powell writes about his well-known 2003 speech before the United Nations in which he presented what was later found to be misinformation about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction. He explains that by the time he delivered that speech, war was already imminent.

As if right-wing conspiracy theorists, convinced that The Washington Post‘s expose´ of Mitt Romney‘s prep school/involuntary barber school years is the result of some nefarious collusion, needed any encouragement, The Huffington Post‘s Mike Calderone reports that WaPo held the print version of their story in order to avoid placing it next to news of President Obama‘s recently completed “evolution” on gay marriage, and all that it would imply.

Headline writing truly is an art. It requires great skill to concoct the perfect combination of words that grab attention and accurately reflect the story, all without being too wordy. It seems really devious, but particular words in a particular arrangement actually do alter how likely it is that some people will read a given article.

A new book alleges that former President Bill Clinton described President Barack Obama privately as an “amateur” and “incompetent” and asked his wife, Sec. Hillary Clinton, to run against Obama again in the 2012 primaries.

The copy editing team at the Seattle Times either had too much or not enough time on their hands this afternoon, when they ran with the headline: “With Dicks in, all 6 WA congressional Democrats favor repeal of gay-marriage ban.” The reference was to Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA) who had just announced his support for the repeal of the state’s prohibition on gay marriage, but the effect of that headline was something quite different from what the Seattle Times had intended.

As we reported earlier Thursday, allegations have come out that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney bullied a prep-school classmate years ago. Moments ago, Romney responded to those allegations on Your World with Neil Cavuto, saying he is sorry if he hurt anyone.

National Journal is reporting that the Democratic National Committee is investigating opportunities to move their nominating convention from its planned site in Charlotte to a state friendlier to President Barack Obama’s newly articulated supportive position on gay marriage. The Democrats are advised to abandon the Tar Heel State, and any pretense of carrying it in the fall, before the party’s faithful supporters and grassroots advocates descend on Charlotte for a mass hate fest that would only move more local voters into the waiting arms of the Romney camp.

The “mom wars” are in full swing; they join gay marriage, birth control and 1970s-era toys as the latest in election year non-issue cultural battlegrounds. If Democratic Strategist Hillary Rosen’s comments in April represented the “mom wars” version of the firing on Ft. Sumter, today’s salvos are the Peninsula campaign – a brutal and ultimately failed campaign that heralded a long and bloody war. The latest volleys were launched by both Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s wife Ann, who wrote an opinion piece in USA Today celebrating motherhood, and Time Magazine’s releasing a sensationalist cover piece showing a young mom breastfeeding a boy well beyond toddler stage.

Well, talk about bad timing. Just hours after President Obama’s big announcement makes him look like a big hero to the gay community, the Washington Post publishes a lengthy report that makes Mitt Romney look like the villain in a crappy teen sex comedy. In it, they quote five of Romney’s classmates from the prestigious preparatory Cranbrook School who describe a cruel prank Romney allegedly engaged in back in 1965 in which he held down a crying student and cut his hair because the younger student looked different and was perceived to be gay.

Basically, the story is a couple notches away from revealing that Romney was a member of Cobra Kai.

Minutes after President Obama told ABC’s Robin Roberts that he has completed his “evolution” on same-sex marriage, the pro-gay marriage Log Cabin Republicans released a statement bemoaning what they see as the president’s poor timing:

In the jacket of his new book, The Tyranny of Clichés: How Liberals Cheat in the War of Ideas, conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg claimed that he had “twice been nominated for a Pulitzer prize.” On Tuesday, Goldberg acknowledged that he has never been nominated for a prize, but was only one of thousands of possible candidates.

The polls have closed and news outlets now report that North Carolina will pass Amendment 1 to prohibit same-sex marriage. The Tar Heel State now joins the rest of its southern counterparts in prohibiting gay marriage, and will become the 31st state to amend its constitution with a ban.

Vice President Joe Biden voiced a strong defense of the Obama administration’s Iran policy on Tuesday to a group of Jewish supporters in Atlanta. He told the group that “we were the problem” when Obama took office in 2009, and today they have made progress. If by progress, he is referring to the appearance of a nascent understanding in the White House that their Iran policy has been an abject failure – then he is correct.
