After An Entire Morning, Republicans Yet To Save America

Well, I don’t know about you but this was not what I voted for. Whole hours after the election gave the Republicans control of the House, disillusioned voters woke up to find a country that had many of the same problems (if not more!) than there were on that heady morning of November 2nd. After an election run on the promises of change, I can’t think that I’m the only person looking at the unemployment numbers and feeling lied to, betrayed, and even lied to. Like many Americans, for me, 2012 can’t come soon enough.

When I think back on that night, all those hours ago, it’s as if it was a different lifetime. I remember being there, standing with my friends and watching John Boehner give his tearful speech and thinking, “Yes, this is the guy. This is the time.” Were we naive to think that one charismatic man could change anything? That he wouldn’t just end up being another career politician more interested in sleeping and having breakfast than in transforming the entire country? Maybe. But we were promised, dammit, and, last time I checked, promises mean something in America!

I know what some people will say. They’ll argue, “Hey, Jon, you need to give them time! They won’t be sworn into office for months and, besides, some of the races haven’t even been called yet.” Well, I have one response to those people. When I hear that argument, I just point out my TV. When I don’t like what I’m watching, all I have to do is press a button on the remote and instantly something better comes on and that requires information going to and from satellites. In space! Last time I checked, you don’t have to go to space to fix the economy! So what gives?

But really, it’s not just that the Republican-run House hasn’t fixed all of my problems. They’ve also forced a bunch of nonsense down my throat that I did not elect them for. Rand Paul spent his entire campaign talking about how he was going to end wasteful government spending. However, the instant he gets elected, he starts wasting time by going on every network possible to give a silly speech. Excuse me, Mr. Paul, I voted for you to save a nation, not to become a TV star.

Maybe we made a mistake on that special day. Fortunately, our Founding Fathers gave us a way to fix our mistakes. Come 2012, there will be a reckoning, my Republican friends, a reckoning of epic proportions. My brothers and sisters in arms will band together and we will vote as a referendum on this pathetic and useless government. We will kick them out and bring in some new blood who will change things and make me happy always. Perhaps the Democrats. Sure, things weren’t great when they were in power but it couldn’t possibly be worse than it is now.

So, get ready, Republicans. You had your chance. Now it’s time to get out of the way.

    Well played, sir.

However, what have you written for me lately?

  • Big Eddie

    Glenn Beck !

  • CosmosDan

That is hilarious. Thank you. However, as a reasonable person I’m willing to give them a couple of weeks to solve our problems, before I begin being overly critical. I’ll go easy for a couple of weeks but if numbers don’t turn around by the end of Nov, I’ll be pissed.

  • Orion Antares

As one of the sowers of discord say, “Don’t retreat, reload”.

  • Harry Flashman

    Almost clever.

A fairly amusing way at stomping your little foot that main stream American voters expressed their disgust with the far left agenda at the ballot box. A tantrum without a tantrum. A defense of progressives without a defense of progressives.

    Like I said…almost clever.

Jon Bershad… Hummmmm… I have never, ever, heard anyone quote Jon Bershad. I have never, ever, heard anyone ever mention Mediaite in a conversation about politics. I come to this site because I refuse to buy cable and sometime I like to see clips from the news shows I can’t watch. I don’t think the columnist opinions on Mediaite matter one iota in the national discussion. It’s sort of like “Jon Bershad” doesn’t even exist. hehe

  • cyclemadness

Thanks for expressing the sentiments of millions of us. When, oh, when will real change show up?

Ah, thanks. I was about to do a search for an example of smug arrogance. You saved me the effort — as did the previous post in the search for an example of “patronizing attitudes”.

Anyone expecting anything of substance from the GOP will be disappointed

Expect them to want radical changes that have 0% chance of passing OR simply blocking anything/everything Obama

    That is their change

  • sarainitaly

    BIGOT!

  • Ninja

They must be doing something right. I just saw President 0bama give a speech without the use of a teleprompter! That is change I can believe in!

So far I give Republicans a 51% disapproval rating! Thumbs up if you agree!

It’s now time for the tea party movement to get stronger. In addition to trying to correct the direction from left to right, now would be a great time to start selecting an Independent candidate to run for President in 2012. Neither the Dem nor Reps Party of Career Politicians can provide the leadership we need.

While not all issues are clear cut, there are three major political divisions in the country based on different philosophies.

On the left are those who think more government control, distribution of wealth by controlling income, and providing full Entitlement Support to an ever larger percentage of Americans. 20%

On the right are those who think a vastly decreased government size, fewer regulations on business and banking, a strong capitalistic business model, and less governmental control of individual decisions. 20%

In the middle are the moderates. We prefer to focus on Individual Rights, Individual Responsibilities, Loyalty to family, community and country, and Compassion for those who actually need help. We have too many career politicians who think they are Entitled to be in power. Moderates intend to elect politicians willing to provide the intended services of the position. Focus is on a smaller government at both Fed and State levels to only provide those services actually wanted by the people; the focus is away from trying to provide for the world and to establish a heaven on earth.

Life goes on, and moderates mostly want both extremes to chill out.

It’s true I hate orange people. I don’t think they’re inferior and I think it’s fine if they want to have a life partner and all, but we shouldn’t be granting special rights to orange people. A soldier shouldn’t have to wonder if the orange person next to him in the foxhole really has his back. And civil unions for orange people is cool, but marriage? What’s next, orange vegetables? Should carrots be allowed to marry? What about carrot/human hybrid babies!? No, we have to draw a line somewhere and for me, it starts at Speaker of the House. Vote Dem 2012! ;-)

Needs a little work. You weren’t as condescending in total stupidity as you needed to be to properly simulate Norbit, notsoswift, etc. I think you could enhance it with a declaration of total falsehood that serves as the premise upon which your hatreds are built – like “since we all know conservatives believe women and non-whites are inferior animals that should be enslaved and beaten until death, blah blah blah…” you know, that sort of thing. ;-)

  • Z_man723

They inherited too much from the previous administration and all that other crap that Obama says.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but please read the Constitution. This is where the rules can be found to how this country runs. This is where you will see why nothing will change until early next year.

I’m surprised that someone in your position didn’t know that.

You missed the “great” speech – about how WE ‘disrupted’ HIS plans!

  • Jayson

Good article. Not that anything will change if one of our newly elected happens to read it. In reality, it doesn’t matter who wins what, they’re all the same. Nothing but fools saying foolish things. Elect me! I’ll save the economy! If you elect me, I can promise, your problems will be over!

Good god, every single one of them is nothing but an airheaded idiot spouting usless words about how they will save the country.. What a lot of bullcrap, and a waste of money, even having these elections. Its the old same old same old everytime they come around. Nothing more than but false promises.

  • musiccityvic

Great Jon, I guess your Obama kneepads are worn out.

The message was sent last night to STOP Obama and the progressive agenda so if nothing happens today, well that is a good thing. Next up, stopping the EPA and their idiotic attacks on business. And by the looks and sound of your leader he will lose votes from the Dems trying to keep their jobs in the next election.

    DrFunke said:

“Radical” changes will include Rolling Back “Radical” legislation that the country didn’t want like Obamacare. Did you know Pelosi did not allow floor debate on amendments even one time on amendments to bills over the last 2 years? Probably not since you only hear that Republicans just say no. Well the people said no yesterday and will continue to say no for the next 2 years until the next wave of firings on both sides.

I wish you guys would stop calling the changes to health insurance as Obamacare. It’s more accuate to name it Romneycare. The bill was modeled after the changes Romney instituted in Massachusetts, which makes me wonder how he’ll be able to run for president on the conservative ticket with a record like that.

Radical changes? You must be talking about Obama and the Marxist progressive regime but totally disregard the will of the people while it shelved a gargantuan healthcare bill that will end up breaking the bank, nationalizing car companies and banks and throwing the taxpayers money away on bailouts for their cronies.
Just what does substance mean to you? Restoring our constitutional republic bringing the federal government back under its restrictions is what it means to me, not going down the European-style socialist road that the European countries are desperately trying to get out of now. I suppose we should thank Obama he was exactly the guy we needed to wake Americans up as to how far off the road and into the swamp we were driven.

We prayed for change and now we got it but this is only the beginning.

Tell you what… Give the Tea Party Republicans the White House and BOTH houses of Congress for TWO YEARS (with a 2/3 majority in the Senate) – like the Democrats had with Obama/Pelosi/Reid – THEN we can talk about “not having accomplished anything”.

AND, I’m not talking about the GOP “Party Elites” (like we had “last time”: Bush/Hastert/Frist) – I’m talking CONSERVATIVE Republicans.

Mr. Obama COULD have pushed through ANYTHING he wanted to – and THIS (economy/unemployment) is what we have to show for it.

NOW it’s time for RESPONSIBLE ADULTS to take the keys away from the children who have been running things for the past TWO YEARS (or FOUR years, in the case of Pelosi/Reid), and get the country back on the RIGHT PATH for economic growth (that’s Growth in the PRIVATE sector, not more Government).
