Apple’s Next iPhone Gets Lost; Gizmodo Pounces With Video Walk-Through

Wow. If we are to believe this story to be true (and, honestly, why wouldn’t we?) a prototype for the new Apple iPhone was found lost in a bar in Redwood City. Engadget had the first pictures this weekend, but now Gizmodo has a lovely video walk-through that will get any iPhone user excited about an upgrade. One can only wonder, hope pray that somehow the new iPhone will also come with less dropped calls?

Gizmodo’s Jason Chen provides a detailed video walk-through
. The actual post includes more details than one could ever want, but some highlights include:

What’s new

• Front-facing video chat camera
• Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
• Camera flash

What’s changed
• The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
• An aluminum border going completely around the outside
• Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)

A ten second embeddable video of the new smart phone is below, presented in the most seductive and teasing way possible.

Tech blog commenters on Engadget and BGR, before this was pretty much confirmed at the next iPhone:
“OMG, so ugly”, “no way Apple would do this”, “this clashes with everything Apple stands for”, “this is so ugly it’s got to be fake”

Commenters now that the proof is pretty solid:
“WANT”, “OMG I want one”, “my next phone”, “Apple does it again”, “sooo secsy”

OK, well, this actually makes sense. I was in a Sprint store recently and had a lengthy conversation with the Salesperson about how soon 4G would be available in our market (4G in major cities to North and South of us), and this salesperson told me not only is the Evo expected sooner than later, but that the iPhone coming to Sprint was imminent. The only that didn’t make sense was the iPhone part. But Sprint launching the rapidly expanding 4G service with HTC Evo and the iPhone 4G would make sense.

If 2010 isn’t the year of Sprint – 2011 certainly will be!

@BigLeagues: this unit has a SIM card, so it’s GSM… either AT&T or T-Mobile (or both). This doesn’t preclude an eventual Sprint or Verizon model, but this particular one isn’t it — and it doesn’t appear to be 4G either, of either the WiMAX (Sprint) or LTE (everyone else) variety.

Expect it to be called “iPhone 4″, or “iPhone HD”… but I don’t think they’d name it “iPhone 4G” without a 4G radio in it.

By using the back gives a gap of more and more acute as compared to tap the glass on the front / screen, but it could be the orientation of the components inside to make a different sound..
