Cenk Uygur Signs On As Contributor, Substitute Anchor At MSNBC

Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks got a chance to guest host MSNBC’s flagship prime time program, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, on Tuesday. While the ratings weren’t kind to Uygur, the higher-ups at the network were, as MSNBC announced today that Uygur is joining the fold as a contributor and substitute anchor.

Uygur told FishbowlLA that his role will be that of “a sixth man coming off the bench” for any one of various shows on the network. Network president Phil Griffin praised Uygur in MSNBC’s statement:

“Cenk’s fresh perspective and his passion for politics make him a great addition to the MSNBC team. He’s developed a big following on MSNBC and we welcome him to this new role.”

There’s no question Uygur’s success in helping build up The Young Turks is impressive, and our own Tommy Christopher speculated that today’s news on Uygur may have been close at hand:

From tonight’s appearance, it appears as though Cenk Uygur might be the next to “graduate” from the progressive farm system onto MSNBC’s regular lineup.

Indeed, the only difference seems to be that Tommy used a baseball metaphor, while Uygur opted for a basketball metaphor. It will be interesting to see how often Uygur gets the guest-hosting call, on Countdown and otherwise, how the ratings perform…and whether it eventually leads to a show of his own.

So, this is the next contributor to MSNBC that I won’t be watching? I watched a few of his TYT videos and they were full of so many fallacies, it was pathetic. Why a person who can add 2+2 would pay attention to him at all is a wonder. Well, at least, no one has to wonder who their target children are – the mentally retarded, but more recently known as congress.

Good grief, msnbc has hit rock bottom. I tried to listen to this arrogant, out of touch idiot for 5 minutes and I thought I had died and gone to Hell and was in The Fire! Ain’t going to be anyone watching msnbc after Nov. 2nd. Even on the night of Nov. 2nd everyone in America will be tuned into FOX News..Having said that I’d put this guy in Fat Ed Schultz’s time slot and put Angry Ed out to pasture. That guy is certifiable. They need to put his Straight Jacket back on him and send him to his rubber room.

Actually yes. At another place, I went through the problems with his video “Cheney – Trial will make KSM a hero” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3N0nTHO4rI ) Here’s a few of the problems I found with it:
“First off, this guy doesn’t know crap about history. There was a President who attacked another country who had nothing to do with us before. I’ll give ya a hint, it was Clinton. Kosovo to be exact. But I’m sure there’s still a point to be made. I’ll press play again.”

“Warrantless wiretapping of anyone. Ok, that’s just a completely retarded exaggeration. Only a few were unjustly wiretapped? Oh well. The oversight was there, so they caught it.
