Bryce Dion, a long-time crew member for the reality television series COPS, was pronounced dead after he was shot and killed by police officers in Omaha, Nebraska during what appeared to be an armed robbery at a Wendy’s restaurant. The suspect in the robbery, who was carrying a BB gun meant to look like an actual rifle, was also killed in the police shooting.
According to Omaha.com, at least 30 shots were fired by the officers. Dion, who had been working on the show in the Omaha area this summer, was hit by a stray bullet and died the following morning. The COPS crew was covering the police response to the robbery when the shooting occurred.
Langley Productions, which produces the show, released the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy and our main concern is helping his family in any way we can. Bryce Dion was a long term member of the Cops team and a very talented and dedicated person. We mourn his passing. An investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with local authorities.”
Dion is listed as production sound mixer on 80 episodes of the series, spanning from 2009-2013.
