Four Students Wounded in Stabbing Spree at University of California, Merced
The University of California, Merced was placed on lockdown this morning after several students were attacked by a stabber before he was shot and killed by campus police.
The incident took place at about 8 A.M., when the school placed notice of the incident on their message board and emergency services began to congregate near the school’s Classroom and Office Building. The LA Times reported that school spokeswoman Lorena Anderson said that the suspect was initially thought to have been taken into custody before putting out a new notice that the suspect was actually dead.
“I can tell you that we’re really shocked and saddened by this,” Anderson said. “We’re doing everything we can to contact family and parents to make sure everyone here is safe and secure.”
Two of the victims were airlifted to a hospital for treatments, while the other two were treated on campus. All of them were reported to be conscious.
Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day and the campus remains closed. While there are no details yet on who the suspect is, the school announced that there would be a press conference on the matter later today.
