Greta Van Susteren On New Fox News Contract: “No Surprise There”

10pmET Fox News host Greta Van Susteren has a new contract with the network, according to the New York Times.

“The new contract will keep Ms. Van Susteren at Fox for several more years,” reports Brian Stelter. Greta is not surprised, and doesn’t know why anyone would be.

There was speculation that another big FNC up-and-comer, like Megyn Kelly or even Glenn Beck could move into a prime time slot when Van Susteren’s contract was up at the end of the year. While the NYT story doesn’t say outright that Van Susteren’s contract means she definitely will stay at 10pmET, Stelter writes the contract gives “its hugely popular prime time line-up an added measure of stability.” The implication is certainly that prime time remains untouched through the 2012 election.

Greta thinks the fact anyone might be surprised is laughable. She writes on her blog, GretaWire:

I just got an email from blogger Alec Wasserman who says he read that I have signed a new contract with Fox News Channel. Big surprise, huh? ON THE RECORD at 10pm has been #1 for 8 1/2 straight years….do you really think anyone would change anything? Why would I and why would Fox? It has worked for both of us. So no surprise there…go back to your blogging!

Alright, back to blogging it is…

Ah hell. I just left a comment on the topic at TVNewser.

    Good!

  • The Real Royal King

I suppose the reason people should be surprised is that it is a God-awful show. Kim Kardashian? The missing White girl du jour. Dick Morris, John Bolton, Newt Gingrich, Dick Morris, over and over and over and over again.

    The Real Royal King says:
    June 15, 2010 at 10:01 pm”

But king, no one watches Fox. You said it yourself, why are you so upset?

I liked Greta much better when she focused on legal stories. She’s very good at looking at both sides of legal issues and breaking them down analytically (vs. emotionally, as most others do).

Which reminds me, NOTSOFAST, keep meaning to tell you that your avatar cracks me up. I followed that trial and am just so glad Spector’s “hair” was not convicted. It was a joyful day when he and his wigs were forced to part ways!

Is Megyn crying in her coffee? Wasn’t there scuttlebutt that she was in line to take over the 10pm slot when Greta left?
Greta’s show is a good legal analysis show WHEN the topic is some sort of legal issue.

I am getting very sick of politicians crowing about the big job potential of Green Energy jobs, which is a total lie and scam. There will NEVER be any sustainable Green Energy manufacturing jobs in the U.S. Why? Rare Earth, which is a 46 element group of minerals required to power all forms of Green Energy manufacturing. For example, it takes 750 lbs of one of the Rare Earth group to power 1 wind turbine and various inputs for solar panels and vehicular batteries. 97% of Rare Earth mined in the world are mined in China along with 98% of the processing capability of Rare Earth into necessary form for high tech electronic equipment. Mining Rare Earth is toxic and the only mine in the U.S. was closed several years ago and will never reopen. China doesn’t care about the health of miners so Chinese mines extract these rare elements with loss of life not a concern. There is no scientific method known to recycle Rare Earth. So, China has a global monoply and with Rare Earth prices expected to rise substantially in the future, mines are being temporarily closed and exports of Rare Earth are be significantly cut back. When the world economy returns to normal, the Chinese have made it known it will no longer export any form of Rare Earth; and any company wanting to buy Rare Earth will then be required to operate a manufacturing plant in China (with some Chinese ownership, say 20%), signing a side agreement that any foreign owned Chinese plant agreeing that no Rare Earth sold to the company will not be transhipped out of China. Additionally, the Japanese Government is convinced that if any Rare Earth mines are being developed outside of China, China will cut the prices of Rare Earth so drastically that the mine(s) in development will never be opened because of manufactured low world prices. The Federal Government just put out a 37 page analysis of Rare Earth (all offensive and defensive weapon systems require Rare Earth to operate) citing a national security interest given we might not have access to any Rare Earth in the future.

So, in conclusion, any companies currently manufacturing Green Energy equipment in this country will eventually have to move to China to obtain Rare Earth necessary to produce their products. China knows how to play hardball and will play hardball to put their huge populace to work. So, when Obama or any other politician crows about Green Energy jobs potential and good wages of those jobs, it is a total lie. By cutting off access to new oil (onshore, offshore and shale) exploration, new natural gas development and new nuclear plant construction, Obama, the Democrats and the Environmentalists are setting up the demise of the U.S. economy because within 10 years there will be insufficient supplies available at reasonable prices to power the economy. This country is in deep trouble because of the deception and stupidity of Democratic politicians. We need to solve this impasse in developing new fossil fuel energy sources or we won’t have an economy big enough to stave off chronically high unemployment (over 10%) and huge inflation in fossil fuel prices.

For those media people interviewing politicians about Green Energy—Please get some spine in interviews and begin exposing their hypocracy.
