Here Are Prince’s Ten Top-Selling Songs Ever
The tragic news that Prince Rogers Nelson, known to tens of millions of fans as Prince, has died is still sinking in, but many music fans are too young to remember some of the funk-rock legend’s biggest hits. Named after his father’s jazz group The Prince Rogers Trio, Prince released his first album, “For You,” in 1978, and scored hits of varying degree on each of his first five albums. It was 1984’s Purple Rain soundtrack, though, that would catapult Prince to superstardom, and which produced his biggest Bilboard chart success. Here are Prince’s top ten Billboard hits:
When Doves Cry – From the “Purple Rain” soundtrack, When Doves Cry hit the airwaves in the summer of 1984 and was responsible for many a curious pose.
Kiss – Prince’s second movie, “Under the Cherry Moon,” didn’t set the cinema world on fire, but this pulse-pounding single from the film’s soundtrack “Parade” is still setting dance floors ablaze today.
Let’s Go Crazy – Another of many hits from “Purple Rain,” Let’s Go Crazy introduced many to Prince’s legendary guitar skills.
Cream – This is the highest-charting single from Prince’s second band, The New Power Generation, and one of his most suggestive.
Batdance – From 1989’s Batman soundtrack, this jam packed more star power than Jack Nicholson’s eyebrows.
Raspberry Beret – The biggest hit from Prince’s polarizing “Purple Rain” followup “Around the World in a Day,” Raspberry Beret is the best fruit-colored headgear anthem ever.
U Got the Look – Prince’s duet with Sheena Easton was nothing if not heck a-slammin’.
Purple Rain – The anthemic title track to the film and album, Purple Rain is sure to elicit some purple tears today.
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World – This ballad marked Prince’s return to the top of the charts after a too-long absence in 1994.
Sign ‘O’ The Times – God only knows how many baby boys named “Nate” resulted from this funky lament.
