Joe Biden: We ‘Screwed Up’ First Version Of Contraception Mandate

The controversial contraception mandate saga continued today as the Blunt Amendment got shot down in the Senate. Also on Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden addressed the issue when he spoke at Iowa State University. Plainly, he admitted the White House’s initial approach wasn’t all that great.

Discussing health care reform, he said:
“The conscience clause is being honored in its literal sense. What is happening now is that we have been able to provide what was hard to set up — it got screwed up in the first iteration — is that any hospital, no matter where it is, no matter who runs it — profit or nonprofit, religious based or otherwise — has to provide insurance to their employees, like everybody else does.”

Though Biden spoke positively about the current policy. The “ultimate resolution,” he said, “is where it should have been in the first place.”

I’m not a democrat or a republican but I will say that at least some Democrats readily admit it when they make mistakes.

The more a Republican politician makes mistakes the more belligerent and stubborn (opps I mean “consistent”) he becomes.

At least they admit a mistake. You would never hear those words coming out Bush/Cheney’s mouth. Thousands of dead soldiers!! I would say that’s a HUGE screw-up.

Not a mistake. Somebody is lying or too incompetent to understand the law. The dems stay awake at night figuring out how to circumvent the Constitution. Simple application of the 1st Amendment – it doesn’t end at the church door. The 1st Amendment is not directed at the church – it’s directed to the individual. You cannot mandate any individual violate the conscience…and NO LAW shall be made regarding establishment or free exercise of these values. This mandate violates both sets – establishing new dictates of conscience and prohibits the free exercise of long and widely held values.
