Police Won’t File Charges Against Texas Judge Caught Beating Daughter Because Too Much Time Has Passed

This past week, the Internet has been ablaze over a video showing a Texas family court judge brutally beating his then 16-year-old daughter. The video got so much attention that the now 23-year-old girl made several TV appearances to discuss the abuse while the father, Judge William Adams, was forced to release a statement accusing his daughter of being a party girl who is just angry he cut her financial support.

However the news has now been released that the local police will not be pressing charges. Not because they don’t think a crime was committed, but because the statute of limitations has passed.

From Fox News:

“Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams likely would have been charged with causing injury to a child or other assault-related offenses for the 2004 beating of his then-16-year-old daughter, but the five-year statutes of limitations expired, Rockport Police Chief Tim Jayroe said.

‘We believe that there was a criminal offense involved and that there was substantial evidence to indicate that and under normal circumstances … a charge could have been made,’ Jayroe said. He said the district attorney determined he couldn’t bring charges, and that police would discuss the case with federal prosecutors even though he doesn’t believe federal charges would apply.”

However, while it looks like Adams will stay out of prison, his career is not fairing quite as well. He is currently being investigated by the state’s judicial conduct commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. He has also been taken off all cases for the time being and at least one fellow judge in his department has said it is unlikely he will ever return.
