Shatner Corrects The Record With Real Levi Johnston Quotes

video

conan_11-6In much the same way he had done for Sarah Palin’s speech in July, William Shatner appeared on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien Wednesday night to do a dramatic reading of an almost-member of Palin’s family: Levi Johnston.

Except it turned out to be a fake, and last night Shatner was back to correct the record.

It turned out the statements Shatner read were tweets from Johnston’s imposter – the Twitter account @LeviJohnston05. And after Levi Johnston’s lawyer demanded a retraction, Conan wanted to set the record straight.

“Apparently the tweets that we read were counterfeit,” he said. “He’s taken his case to some of the most respected authorities for truth, including TMZ.com.”

So how did he solve the problem? Invite Shatner back on for another go at it. But this time: “This is the real thing, I’m sure he’ll be happy about this, these are all real.”

Instead of the tweets, it was the very quotable things Johnston has said in real life. Example: “Guess what, I shot a big-ass bear” and “I just get naked, that’s what I do.” Of course, hearing it from Shatner’s mouth gives it a whole new meaning.

Here’s the accurate dramatic reading by Shatner last night:

Well done. Levi – a staunch conservative and big- ass- bear- killer, is the future of Murcuh. Proof of our educational system. At least in Alaska.

    video

After 95 episodes, the epic failure known as The Jay Leno Show airs its final episode tonight. Of course, Leno himself will be back after the Olympics, comfortably at 11:35pm all over again. Which was pretty much the problem to begin with - the 10pm offering started as a similar product to the Tonight Show, and only became more like the old format as time went on.
