This delay looked, for a moment, like it might never end. Until a kid came along to save the day.
During the first half of Tuesday night’s game between Boise State and Fresno State, an errant shot bounced over the backboard and got stuck underneath the shot clock.
The efforts to pry the ball loose were utterly fruitless. They tried using a mop stick. That didn’t work. They tried throwing another basketball up. That didn’t work. They sent the tallest player out to jump up with the map stick. And that didn’t work.
Enter Hunter Hales. The young boy was carried from the crowd out on to the floor to give it a shot by climbing up the backboard.
Several players helped Hunter climb up. But Hales was eventually on his own as he made his way to the ball. He poked at it for a bit, then eventually grabbed it, and threw it down to the roars of the crowd. The game was able to resume, all thanks to young Hunter.
After saving the day, CBS Sports Network caught up with the kid for a brief interview.
When the moment called, Hunter Hales answered.
We caught up with the legend who captured one elusive basketball. https://t.co/ataxXuvWDH

The reporter for the CBS Sports Network asked young Hales if he was nervous climbing up to retrieve the ball.
“Kind of,” Hales said, sheepishly.
