Tim Scott Goes Off on Abortion Survivor Bill Failure: Frustrating a Nation of Good Conscience Would Debate This

The day after the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sponsored by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), failed to pass in the Senate by a vote of 53-44, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) expressed his frustration by going off during remarks on the Senate floor. It was especially aggravating for him since his flight back to Washington, D.C. was delayed and he missed the vote.

The National Review reports the bill would have required doctors to provide medical care to infants born alive after an attempted abortion procedure.

Scott said if he was present, he would have been a yea.

“I will say, without any question, Mr. President, that the frustration that I felt being late to that vote was one that incredibly irritating and infuriating that I had planned to be on the floor of the Senate voting yes on a commonsense piece of legislation, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivor’s Protection Act, but was unable to make it because a one-hour flight took more than three hours and I arrived here about four minutes after the close of the vote which is also quite frustrating, Mr. President,” Scott explained.

“But what’s frustrating even more than that, is that in a nation of good conscience that we would be debating having a conversation about a child who is born sitting there alive, separated from her mother,” he said. “And and there would be a question of whether or not that child should be able to continue to live. ”

“I cannot imagine whether you are a pro-life, as I am, or pro-choice like others that this would be even an issue of debate or discussion within the two sides. There is no side on this topic,” Scott continued. “There cannot be a side about life separated from the mother, whether or not that life should continue to live. This is common sense. This is human decency. This is not an issue of being pro-life or pro-choice. This is being pro-child which we all should be.”

Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who was an original cosponsor, also missed the vote due to a flight delay, NR further reported.

Most Senate Democrats just voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
