Glamour Announces 2010’s Women Of The Year: Julia Roberts, Cher And Constance McMillen, Among Others

Each fall, Glamour magazine anoints several female powerhouses as Women of the Year. In the past, they’ve honored movers and shakers like Meg Whitman, Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, and Jane Goodall—and now, the mag has revealed who will be following in their footsteps.

The eclectic list includes over three dozen recipients, though some of them will be receiving collective awards. All of them will be honored at a ceremony held next Monday at Carnegie Hall. Highlights from the roster include:

Julia Roberts, who “is helping to make the world a better place by supporting Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camp; serving on the board of Earth Biofuels, which promotes renewable energy; and raising awareness for Rett Syndrome.”

Cher, who gets a lifetime achievement award for being a “sensation” for forty-five years.

Constance McMillen, the teenager who became a media darling after her high school told her she couldn’t bring her girlfriend to the prom.

– The world’s female heads of state, including including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania, Prime Minister Iveta Radičovó of Slovakia, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago, and Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor of Croatia. No American female politicians made the list.

– Athletes Lindsey Vonn, Mia Hamm and Lisa Leslie, three women who are kicking ass in the world of sports.

All of the recipients are profiled in the magazine’s December issue, which can be found on newsstands starting November 9. Congratulations, ladies!
