Is Mike Huckabee gearing up to send Newt Gingrich a cease and desist letter? The former Speaker used Huckabee’s likeness in a new ad, in which the latter, then running against Mitt Romney, attacked the former governor. Huckabee explained to the crew of Fox & Friends this morning that the material was from an ad that he didn’t, in good conscience, air, and that while he had not explicitly told Gingrich to knock it off, he had clearly called the ad “unauthorized, disapproved use of something that was copyrighted material.”

Former Fox News contributors Newt Gingrich wasn’t very happy with Fox News this morning. The Republican frontrunner in the 2012 campaign visited the weekend crew of Fox & Friends to chat about debate dynamics and ended up challenging the network’s “fair and balanced” logo over a question on Mitt Romney‘s taxes. Has Gingrich taken this whole hate-the-media thing a step to far by attack, of all people, Fox & Friends hosts?

With the 2012 primary elections in full swing, this week brought with it some unfinished business from 2008, as Mike Huckabee opened up a can of worms by suggesting that Sen. John McCain encouraged Fred Thompson to stay in the Republican primary to dilute the Huckabee vote. Sen. McCain denied it, while Thompson essentially called Huckabee a liar, and on Fox & Friends this morning, Huckabee noted that he meant no offense, and was a bit confused as why he had to “apologize for thinking they were smart.”

On Thursday morning, political commentator Michelle Malkin appeared on Fox & Friends to offer her take on, among other things, recent comments made by DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz regarding civility, the Tea Party movement, and the shooting on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords in Arizona.

Karl Rove is a regular on Fox & Friends, both the weekday and weekend editions (which have different hosts). It had been a while since he had been on either– not since 2011, in fact– and so he had prepared a cute New Year’s Resolution joke about how he would promise to protect the female host from the other two jokers, except it appears he prepared it for the weekday edition. And so, this morning, he mistakenly promised Alisyn Camerota that he would protect Gretchen Carlson from her co-hosts. Oops!

With the Iowa caucuses somehow less than a month away and Rep. Ron Paul inching closer to frontrunner Newt Gingrich in the polls, the question of whether Gingrich will make it into first place and, if he doesn’t, whether it will matter has come to the fore. On Fox & Friends this morning, 2008 Iowa Republican caucus winner Mike Huckabee weighed in on the importance of coming in first there, and on his suspicion that Gingrich may not survive the current “political colonoscopy” his campaign is undergoing.

The National Review‘s Rich Lowry,, appeared on Fox News’s America Live to talk about his publications editorial which urged Republicans “to have the good sense to reject a hasty marriage to Newt Gingrich, which would risk dissolving in acrimony.”

If anyone on cable news could claim to have “seen it all” on the campaign trail, it is Karl Rove*, but even the Republican campaign mastermind is having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that Donald Trump is apparently moderating a Republican presidential debate. “This is weird, isn’t it?” he asked the hosts of Fox & Friends this morning, elaborating that he didn’t understand how someone threatening to run for president as an independent could moderate a Republican debate fairly.

Fox News Sunday Host Chris Wallace made a special appearance on Fox & Friends this morning to talk about the life of Andy Rooney, the longtime 60 Minutes journalist and colleague of his father Mike Wallace who passed away this morning at 92. Agreeing that Rooney was “absolutely” a curmudgeon, Wallace also testified to the “real sweetness” of Rooney and his genuineness on and off camera.

Mike Huckabee hasn’t been one to shirk away from criticizing Herman Cain when proper, but this morning on Fox & Friends, he took the opportunity to defending Cain from a week of white-hot scrutiny after Politico uncovered decades-old sexual harassment accusations. In presidential campaigns, Huckabee lamented, “you spend 80% of the time defending yourself against these extraneous nonsense things,” and “you almost have to invent someone out of thin air” to avoid the opposition research attacks.

Mike Huckabee isn’t especially impressed by Rick Perry‘s threat that he may drop out of some debates lest he make any more gaffes. Not because he doesn’t understand the rigor of a presidential campaign– he has certainly been there– but because he has admitted that his campaign slowdown is an attempt to keep his image pristine. What does it say about a candidate, Huckabee asked on Fox & Friends this morning, that they admit to being unable to stop gaffing?

Mike Huckabee‘s faith made up a significant part of his political identity during his 2008 Republican Presidential bid, and as such Huckabee came out this morning to defend the open airing of faith by other Republican candidates this time around. Speaking to the Fox & Friends crew this morning, Huckabee said he appreciated Texas Gov. Rick Perry‘s openness with his faith, but didn’t see it as a way of “other”-ing the Mormon candidates in the field, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman.

The feedback President Obama’s much anticipated (and much preemptively maligned) jobs speech is raking in has been mostly predictably partisan, with some deviations, but lost in responses from Rep. Michele Bachmann and others seems to be the directness in comments from Fox & Friends‘ Steve Doocy this morning, who suggested the speech amounted to little more than an “infomercial.”

Republican Congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared on Fox News earlier and delivered his unique perspective on the debt crisis. Paul recognized that Speaker John Boehner had a tough job trying to negotiate with the Democrats who demagogue the debt issue, yet said he can’t possibly support Boehner’s debt ceiling increase bill because “those cuts aren’t real.”

For everyone who didn’t feel like spreading the message of state’s rights this holiday season with the Tea Party coloring book, but still wanted your kids to spend Christmas coloring people purple and adding in dinosaurs (or whatever the heck it is kids do with coloring books), the weekend hosts of Fox & Friends are presenting an alternative: The Atheist Christmas Coloring Book! Some of you are probably wondering how connecting atheism and Christmas could possibly make any sense. Well, just remember, it makes about as much sense as connecting atheism to Fox & Friends.

Last night, President Barack Obama defended the right of the lower Manhattan Islamic center to exist, as per the First Amendment. The crew of Fox & Friends weighed in this morning, and while they still exhibited some discomfort with the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque,” they praised the President for doing his job and “stand[ing] up for religious freedom.”

The weekend Fox and Friends crew is, if not sympathetic, at least open to speculate on whether the Rand Paul backlash is deserved. Host Alisyn Camerota wondered aloud whether the moral of the Paul/Civil Rights Act story is that “it’s hard to campaign and be completely honest and truthful about what you really believe,” with the reaction from her guests ranging from concern to confusion about why this is even a topic.

On America’s Newsroom yesterday, host Alisyn Camerota asked her guests about the recent amendment to the Senate health care bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds to subsidize abortions, and it’s affect on “low-income women.” Camerota asked: “If there is no federal money used to subsidize abortions for low-income women, doesn’t that mean there will be more low-income babies?

The weekend edition of Fox & Friends starts at 6 a.m., which means that Alisyn Camerota sets her alarm for 3 a.m. in order to be ready in time. Oh, and then she spends the whole day running around New York with her kids.
